Reports on Thursday confirmed
that Etisalat Nigeria has changed its brand name to 9Mobile. This has come at
the back of the early take over of the telecom group by a consortium of banks,
and also the pulling out of their major investors-Mubadala Group from United
Arab Emirates due to the debt they owe.
However, the telecom company has
moved to change its brand name after the Emirates Telecommunications
Corporation (ETC) asked them to stop using the brand name.
The change of name came after a
management meeting in Lagos with many news sources suggesting that the name
change would have been spearheaded
by newly appointed chief Executive Officer
of Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Boye Olusanya due to his experience in company name
change as he was chiefly involved in the transition of Celtel to Airtel.
Therefore, Etisalat Nigeria is
now known as 9Mobile.
