Breaking News: Deputy Mayor Assassinated In Turkey

An unknown assailant shot the deputy mayor of Istanbul's Sisli district in the head on Monday and he is in a critical condition.
It was not yet clear if the incident was linked to Friday's abortive military coup which
recorded a death toll of over 200 people. However, Turkey remains in a state of high tension, despite government assurances that the situation fully under control.

Turkish broadcast Television NTV reported that the assailant had entered the deputy mayor Cemil Candas office and then gun shots rang out. Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) runs the prosperous Sisli district. Along with other opposition parties the CHP has condemned the attempted coup.
