Sir Elton John has been seen carrying a Dolce & Gabbana shopping bag just a day after he claimed to be boycotting the fashion label because its founders called babies born through IVF 'synthetic'.
The singer was pictured yesterday entering a recording studio in Los Angeles with a bag from one of the designers' stores, with the name of the label written in gold on the side.
He was carrying the D&G-branded bag only 24 hours after he entered into a high-profile row with the designers over their criticism of fertility treatments.
Sir Elton was seen carrying the Dolce & Gabbana bag on March 16, after being dropped off in his chauffeur-driven SUV. A spokesman for the singer confirmed: ‘Yes he was carrying the bag but he hadn’t been shopping. And it should not detract from their original message or the boycott.’ Sir Elton announced he would boycott the brand after designer Domenico Dolce criticised IVF, saying: 'You are born and you have a father and mother. At least it should be like that. That's why I'm not convinced by what I call chemical children, synthetic babies.'
But in a new twist today, Sir Elton John has DENIED carrying a Dolce & Gabbana shopping bag a day after vowing to boycott them ,claiming it was PHOTOSHOPPED.
According to another representative "This picture has been photoshopped he was NOT carrying that bag." "He was carrying a BLACK BRIEF CASE !" But just hours later the star's rep went on to admit it was a Dolce & Gabbana bag in the photos after all, telling Mirror Online: "He was carrying a DG bag." and "It seems it was an old bag with food in it had no clothes from DG in it."
Sir Elton wrote a scathing post following the designers' recent comments, ranting at the designers: "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as synthetic? And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children''.
"Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again.
Victoria Beckham showed her support for Elton John's stance by tweeting “Sending love to Elton David Zachary Elijah & all the beautiful IVF babies.”
In response Gabbana has called Sir Elton a "fascist" and asked fans to boycott him. The fashion icons, who founded the Dolce & Gabbana label, were a couple for 23 years, before they split in 2005. They continue to work together and are close friends. Elton, 67, married his long-term partner David, 52, in December in front of celebrity pals including the Beckham clan, Liz Hurley and David Walliams.
In a recent interview Dolce said: "No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed."children "must be an act of love", "You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that's how it should be."I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog."
Gabbana then said: "The family is not a fad. In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging."
The designer first spoke of his views in 2006, stating: "I am opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents. A child needs a mother and a father. I could not imagine my childhood without my mother. I also believe that it is cruel to take a baby away from its mother."
