ASUU Presiddent Advocates The Creation Of ‘Workers Party’

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Nasir Fagge, has called for the formation of a genuine political party to be called ‘workers party’, which will give opportunity to majority of Nigerians to participate in development processes.

He stated this yesterday at the Labour House in Abuja, during a press conference bothering on the state of the nation. Daily Trust gathered

Fagge emphasised that the proposed party should draw full lessons from past efforts, and
must be organised to meet the challenges of building a nation where individuals would live in freedom and happiness.
His said: “There is a need to adopt a developmental model that will make majority of the Nigerian people the subjects (participants) and objects (ends) of the development process in the face of aggressive intervention by agents of global capitalism.”
Fagge noted that democracy requires that budgeting process should be participatory and Nigeria, being a signatory to the Global Open Budget Initiative, was expected to practice participatory budgeting.
He enjoined the government to involve civil society in identifying national priorities, as well as in the legislature.
