FG Will Ensure Social Welfare For The Poor – VP, Osinbajo

The vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has pledged the federal government’s commitment to ensure implementation of social welfare ‎scheme for the poor in the country.
The vice president stated this yesterday while speaking at the 13th Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja, stressing that the government is setting aside the sum of N500 billion in the budget for the conditional wealth transfer to cater for the poor and support families to train their children in schools.

Osinbajo also stressed the need for training of teachers to meet academic need.
He further reiterated federal government’s plan to employ 500, 000 teachers in the country, saying the government would pay attention to adequate training of the teachers to be recruited.
In his remark on the topic, ‎’50 Years Since 1966:Is Nigeria Rising?’, Osinbajo assured that
Nigeria is rising despite the economic outlook ‎with dwindling oil prices, explaining that plans are on the way to explore agriculture and other revenue sources.

Also speaking, the Country Representative of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Dr Mairo Mandara said lack of social justice and equity in Nigeria is a threat to the country’s survival.
Expressing concern over widening inequality in the country, she said such inequality gap should be a source of concern to the rich because it is responsible for the violent crimes and agitations emerging in various parts of the country.

Mandara identified leadership as responsible for the advances made by Rwanda in poverty reduction, health care, women empowerment, education and other human development index.
